Antique Vintage Clean Crisp Bright 1915 Wood Reach Newport Tennis Racket Antique old wood wooden racquet with excellent decals in super clean condition; looks like it was hardly used. NOTE: Part of a group of rackets I just found. I will list one racket a day between September 17 and September 26. Will combine items for reduced postage for multiple purchases. MODEL: A J Reach “NEWPORT” ; Reach rackets were made in Philadelphia, PA HEAD: graceful elongated oval shape; stock is square at the shoulders and chamfered as it goes around the top; beautiful design WARPING: none FRAME: excellent clean condition; retains most of the original finish on the shaft, throat and around the head; top rail of the head shows much less than expected scuffing or wear THROAT WEDGE: laminated in place in the style of the period STRINGS: original lamb gut as shown: red crosses and mustard mains WRAPPING / BANDING: as shown: could use a little TLC DECALS: as shown; they are in excellent condition STAMPS: V LIGHT as shown HANDLE / GRIP: measures 5 inches around; shallow grooves; this racket pre-dates leather grips so it was not made with grip material. END CAP: beautiful original leather strip at the base of the handle with minor wear; the leather heel end cap as shown is intact and a rare survivor WEIGHT: actual weight is 13 ounces Postage will be based on 3.5 pounds of packed weight.
