Vintage Wood 1930 Wilson Maurice McLaughlin Autograph Split T Open Throat Tennis Racket CLASSIC antique nice old early wood wooden racquet with “signature” of tennis great Mauri McLaughlin and patented reinforced open throat design NOTE: Just in time for Wimbledon. Part of a group of 9 rackets I just found. I will list one racket a day between June 16 and June 24. Will combine items for reduced postage for multiple purchases. MODEL: 1930 Wilson “Mauri McLoughlin” autograph signature. McLaughlin was a star in the 1910s, winning the U S Open twice and finishing runner-up three more times. Since he had to play as an amateur, he was not able to have a racket endorsement until he retired and became a teaching professional in the late 1920s. HEAD: Classic period elongated oval; Stock is square at the shoulders and rounded over as it goes all around the head WARPING: none FRAME: excellent condition with old DUCO finish mostly intact; expected wear to the top of the head THROAT WEDGE: The rarest of the open throat designs from the late 1920s – early 1930s. The patent date on the racket is for the split-T design. The design was “sold” to and used by many companies during this period. There is a crack to the “T” as shown on the non-autograph side of the racket. STRINGS: as shown: look like original lamb gut. BANDING: the six green and yellow original silk cord bands seem fully intact DECALS: As shown; excellent condition GRIP: 4 7/8 inches; pre-dates grip material STAMPS: Has a faint 1 an inch past the patent date WEIGHT: weighs 12.2 ounces actual weight END CAP: leather strip intact with minor wear; color has faded from a richer blue that probably matched the end cap; end cap as shown Postage will be based on 3.5 pounds of packed
