Donnay Bjorn Borg Personally Owned Donnay Tennis Racket

An tremendous collectible for a true Bjorn Borg tennis fan. This racket was purchased directly from the private collection of Lennart Bergelin, Bjorn Borg's longtime coach and manager. I was introduced to Niclas Bergelin, Lennart's son, a few years ago and Niclas was in possession of his father's personal collection of Borg's personal rackets. Niclas presented me with Bjorn's actual match used racket and had Bjorn personally sign the racket. This racket is almost perfect condition. I do not think it was ever strung and hence played. When Borg signed with Donnay to use the Borg Pro tennis racket worldwide it was a well known fact that all of Borg's rackets were custom made for him. What I suspect is that this racket came into Borg's possession sometime around 1981 or 1982 just before the time he retired. Like I mentioned the racket is in perfect condition. Upon his retirement this racket was stored away. You will notice a few distinct features that distinguish this racket as Bjorn' personal racket from the other Donnay rackets for sale. First, notice the sides of the racket, you will see a band and a distinct difference in width. See the photo of Borg I have attached. You can see the where the racket is wider at the bottom and thinner on top. This width is where the racket was built up to be stronger so the racket could handle the high string tension. Subsequently this build up added to the weight of the racket. Compare this feature to the store bought Donnay Borg Pro rackets and you will see that they do not have this custom feature. Second, the grip is a custom wrapped fairway leather grip. Bjorn used two single length fairway grips wrapped together to get the longer two-handed grip. Borg did the same with his Bancroft as well. Third, on the side of the racket you will see Personal Model written under the Donnay. Another feature that you will not find on store bought rackets. When I received the racket Niclas also sent me a letter of authenticity listing some of the facts of the racket. This letter was signed by Bjorn Borg and it was addressed to me personally. This letter was misplaced during an office move. I am actively searching for the letter and will post a photo of the letter.
