ANTIQUE DRAPER & MAYNARD OXFORD TENNIS RACQUET, EXCELLENT CONDITION. This racquet is in excellent condtion for an item that is probably about 100 years old. There are no cracks, there is no warping, the big dog logo is clear and complete, as is the OXFORD logo on the other side, and the deeply grooved handle does not show much sign of wear. The old catgut strings are torn, but they are very old, maybe original, and they attest to the racquet’s having been in storage for many decades after its first use probably around 1910. The top edges on the sides of the head show no scuffing, also suggesting that it was not used much. The dark smudges on the top of the head I believe are not scratches but rather stains from having sat in an old black racket cover in a hot place like an attic for so long. If so, they should be able to be cleaned off. The only detractive detail is on the end of the handle where the butt cover has been worn off. With replaced strings this can be a very nice display piece.
