Vintage Wood 1920s Harry C Lee “Lee Special” Tennis Racket Intact Strings, heavy weight, large grip.Antique old early wood wooden racquet from well-known New York City maker.NOTE:  Part of a group of rackets I just found. I will list one racket a day between October 21 and October 30.  Will combine items for reduced postage for multiple purchases.MODEL: 1920s Harry C Lee Co New York “Lee Special” THE SLOT: This design was patented in 1908 by Thompson (Philadelphia) and Mitchell (Camden, NJ across the river).  It was designed to “increase elasticity and resistance to torsional strains.” Harry C Lee must have paid royalties for the use of the design.  It seldom appears on other companies’ rackets.HEAD: Classic period elongated oval; stock is square at the shoulders and very slightly chamfered as it goes around the top of head WARPING: noneFRAME: excellent solid condition; original finish in very good condition on the shaft and around the head.THROAT WEDGE:  concave wedge; laminated in place in the style of the periodSTRINGS: Intact: possibly original or a 1930s replacement; no breaks; completely intactBANDING: five original silk cord bands remain with some fading; original mustard color shoulder wrapping tape as wellDECALS: As shown; excellentGRIP: 4 ½ inches; never had grip materialSTAMPS:    283   and   11WEIGHT: weighs 13.4 ounces actual weightEND CAP: leather strip almost completely intact with minor roughness as shown in the photo; end cap as shown in great state of preservation… these don’t often survive the yearsPostage will be based on 3.5 pounds of packed weight.  International buyer: please wait for the invoice.  International shipping: Approximately $45 for one racket; $4 for each additional racket in the same box.Last racket in this collection will be listed on October 30.
