This Wright & Ditson "Surprise" wooden Tennis Racket has belonged to my Mom since she was a girl, it was given to her in the early 1940's. It is 27 inches X 9 inches and the rim is 1/2 inch by 5/8. It has a couple of broken strings and is a little dusty.
The label on both sides of the racket is slightly scratched. In the green paint on the handle is a symbol with a man standing on a baseball. Inside the baseball I think it says: MFG US PAT OFF and underneath maybe: MARCAREGISTRADA? It is very small print. Also in black ink on the side of the handle in the green paint is says: Keep in Press When Not in Use, Made in U.S.A. And, she has kept it in the press! The press has come apart in one corner. It has a scratched label in red white and blue with unreadable letters at the top, and Trade Mark in the white area.
The tennis racket weighs 12.2 ounces and the press weighs a little over a pound.
