Vintage Wood 1915 Sports & Pastimes VOLLEY Tennis Racket Intact Original StringsColor coordinated banding and strings. Antique old early wood wooden racquet possibly / probably from EnglandNOTE: Part of a new group of rackets. NEW AUCTION FORMAT for me: I will list two rackets a day between November 29 and December 4. Will combine items for reduced postage for multiple purchases.MODEL: 1915 Sports & Pastimes The VOLLEY racket. The phrase “Sports & Pastimes” dates to Victorian England and was used to describe all manner of outdoor sport activities such as cricket, croquet, badminton, horseback riding, hunting, and tennis.HEAD: Classic period oval; stock is square at the shoulders and rounded as it goes around the top of head; a bit more than expected wear to the top of the head.WARPING: noneFRAME: excellent solid condition; retains most of original finish on the shaft and around the head with some worn areas.THROAT WEDGE: Concave wedge laminated in placeSTRINGS: looks like original lamb gut in color coordinated dark mustard; appears to have had a “target hitting area” at one time; much of that is absentBANDING: six color coordinated original silk bands on the head completely intact; two bands from the throat: one is missing; the second has substantial lossesDECALS: noneGRIP: 4 7/8 inches; never had grip materialSTAMPS: Sports & Pastimes and THE Volley as shownWEIGHT: weighs 12.7 ounces actual weightEND CAP: leather strip completely intact with very minor wear; end cap as shown Postage will be based on 3.5 pounds of packed weight.
