As a youth Brookes played regularly on the court of the family mansion in Queens Road, Melbourne and nearby, at the Lorne St courts, he studied the strokes and tactics of leading players.
Brookes was the first non-Briton to win the men's singles at Wimbledon. He won the men's singles twice, first in 1907 and again in 1914. He also won the doubles in each of those years with New Zealander Anthony Wilding, whom he beat in the 1914 singles Final. He was a major figure in establishing the Australian Open (known as the Australasian Championship until 1927), which he won in 1911. Brookes is considered to have been a World No. 1 player in the 1900s.
Brookes played 39 Davis Cup matches for Australia/New Zealand and the Australian Davis Cup Team between 1905 and 1920.
In May 1914 he won the singles title at the Surrey Lawn Championships in Surbiton, defeating Gordon Lowe in the final in five sets.[3]
Brookes was instrumental in the development of Kooyong as a tennis centre. In 1926 he became the first president of the Lawn Tennis Association of Australia, a post he held for the next 28 years.Norman Brookes was knighted "in recognition of service to public service" in 1939.[5] Lady Brookes (C.B.E. in 1933) became Dame Mabel Brookes in 1955 for her work in charities and social causes.
The trophy for men's singles at the Australian Open, the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup, is named in his honour.[6]
He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1977.
In 1981 he was honoured on a postage stamp issued by Australia Post depicting a cartoon image by Tony Rafty.

Harry C Lee was a sporting goods store in New York with it's own line of tennis rackets.Until 1930 all rackets had a slot in the shaft near the handle, like the Snauwaert Caravelle used to have.
The latest model known is from 1955.Their top models were the “Dreadnaught Driver “ and the “BAT”. They had a retail store and factory at 10 Warren St in NYC and occupied several floors in the building. The building was an icon in the area in that it had a 8-10 ft Tennis Racquet that hung above the entrance to the store. The Harry C Lee brand was associated with several top players in the early 1900’s and then again in the mid to late ‘50’.sHarry C Lee company supported and sponsored Althea Gibson from her early days playing in NYC parks up through and including her US National and Wimbledon championships. When Ms Gibson turned pro , a she endorsed a Harry C Lee racquet which carried her name.

Very rare racket.One binding on the shaft is missing.Around head many scratches and scuffs.Strings are in good tension.Grip is original, the end of the very bottom grip leather is torn, missing grip end cover.As you can see there is a cut through out  in the middle of the shaft, I believe this is for reducing vibration, but I am not sure. Very interesting racket structure.Coming with Shut-tite head cover.Grip size measures 4 5/8" by ruler.Logos on both side of the shaft is in good condition. No paint chips.Well crafted racket.Great decoration item hang on a wall in your room,bar or Tennis Club.Or best gift idea  for your tennis enthusiast or tennis item collector.I received detail information one of great ebay member. Although Norman Brooks played most of his tennis in the 1900-1920 era this racquet is more like a late 1930's even 1940's model. Early 1900 racquets didn't have leather grips or decorative finishes like this one. The slotted shaft was however patented way back in 1905 or 1908 from memory.
