Vintage Wood 1920 Bulbous Grip Cashman Belmont Kent? Tennis Racket Really nice classic antique old early wood wooden racquet with a bulbous grip, excellent decals and intact banding. Clean racket with mellow finish. Probably made by E. Kent of Pawtucket, RI, who made rackets for retailers like Jordan Marsh and Davega. Bulbous racket grips are on perhaps 1% of these vintage rackets. NOTE: Part of a group of 12 rackets fresh to the market. I will list two rackets a day between March 21 and March 26. Will combine items for much reduced postage for multiple purchases. MODEL: 1920 BELMONT from Cashman Athletic Goods, Providence, RI. The store was located at 33 Weybosset St until about 1925 when it went out of business. HEAD: Classic period elongated oval; stock is square at the shoulders all the way around the top of the head WARPING: none FRAME: soft mellow glow finish; much less than expected wear to the top of the head THROAT WEDGE: Concave and laminated in place in the style of the period STRINGS: original lamb gut as shown BANDING: original silk bands in wonderful intact condition; original excellent tape wrapping as well DECALS: As shown GRIP: bulbous grip with very shallow grooves at top and bottom; smooth in the middle. 4 7/8 inches at the widest; 4 3/8 inches at the narrowest; pre-dates grip material STAMPS: 14 OZ on the side of the throat above the grip: same spot and font used by KENT WEIGHT: weighs 13.4 ounces actual weight END CAP: excellent intact leather strip; end cap as shown Postage will be based on 3.5 pounds of packed weight.
