Vintage Wood 1905 Wedge Spalding SLOCUM Tennis Racket Classic clean antique nice old early wood wooden racquet from A G Spalding.NOTE: Part of a group of 12 rackets fresh to the market. I will list two rackets a day between April 20 and April 25. Will combine items for much reduced postage for multiple purchases.MODEL: 1905 Spalding SLOCUM. Tennis Hall of Famer Henry Warner Slocum, Jr. was the U.S. Open Singles Champion in 1888 and 1889. He was a singles finalist in 1887 and 1890. He was the son of Civil War General Henry Warner Slocum.From an early Slocum ad: The Slocum. Made of the finest white ash, strung with the finest English Tennis Gut, and finished in most beautiful manner.HEAD: An early version of the big head racket: large and broad Slocum oval: 9.5 wide (most rackets of the period are 8 ¾ to 9 wide); stock is square at the shoulders and square as it goes up and around the top of head WARPING: noneFRAME: very good condition with much of the old finish; expected wear to the top of the head; retains much of original light colored paint wash THROAT WEDGE: 1905 5-piece laminated convex wedge STRINGS: as shown; original thick lamb gut with one break BANDING: none; predates bandingDECALS: As shown: the 1905 date is for the laminated wedge designGRIP: narrow grooves with wear; 4 7/8 inches; pre-dates grip materialSTAMPS: 13-Z (or 13-2) as shown WEIGHT: weighs 13.1 ounces actual weightEND CAP: leather strip mostly intact with minor wear; end cap as shown Postage will be based on 3.5 pounds of packed weight.
