Vintage Wood 1910 Wright & Ditson SEARS Tennis Racket Super End Cap Original Thick StringsAntique old early wood wooden racquet from well-known Boston maker.NOTE: Part of a group of 12 rackets fresh to the market. I have listed two rackets a day between May 27 and June 1. Will combine items for much reduced postage for multiple purchases.MODEL: 1910 Wright & Ditson SEARSRichard Dudley "Dick" Sears (October 26, 1861 – April 8, 1943) was an American tennis player from Harvard who won three U S National Championship singles in the tournament's first seven years, from 1881-87, and the doubles for six years from 1882-87, after which he retired from tennis but was able to collect endorsement fees from W & D. They made SEARS rackets into the 1920s; it was one of their longest running models.HEAD: Classic period elongated oval; stock is square at the shoulders and square as it goes around the top of head WARPING: noneFRAME: excellent solid condition; much of old original finish on the shaft and around the head.THROAT WEDGE: 1905 patent laminated convex wedge in the style of the periodSTRINGS: looks like original thick lamb gut BANDING: the earliest form of tape banding mostly there but as isDECALS: As shown; excellent. GRIP: 4 7/8 inches; shallow grooves; never had grip materialSTAMPS: 14 on one side; 2 on the other side; letter J lightly carved as shown WEIGHT: weighs 14.0 ounces actual weightEND CAP: leather strip intact with wear as shown in the photo; fabulous end cap as shown… these don’t often survive in this conditionPostage will be based on 3.5 pounds of packed weight.
