RARE Vintage Bright Wood 1920 Spalding DIANA Junior Size Squash Racket with Wood Grip and Intact Original Strings Hardly used! Scarce antique old early wood wooden squash racquet by Spalding.  This was not intended as a toy; it is beautifully made and crafted to be just like a full size racket; overall length is 20 inches. MODEL: 1920 Spalding DIANA. It is unsigned but marked with Spalding’s proprietary “Diana” decal HEAD: Classic period round shape; appears to be full size with 6 7/8” inside the frame measurement across; stock is square at the shoulders and rounded as it goes around the head; much less than expected wear to the top of the head; contrasting ply of black wood as shown. Has 18 mains, 18 crosses; 3 rows of trebling at the top and 2 rows of trebling at the bottom. WARPING: none FRAME: excellent solid condition; soft glow mellow original finish intact on the shaft and around the head. THROAT WEDGE: concave in the style of the period; note the extensions of applied lamination on the the shoulders STRINGS: looks like original blue/white twist lamb gut as shown; fully intact including the trebling BANDING: excellent and complete; combination of silk cord in red and white to accompany the white of the “plastic” bands DECALS: As shown; excellent.  The Diana decal is identical to the one Spalding used on its Diana tennis rackets of the same period; the B. T. was probably the initials of the owner. GRIP: 3.5 inches; never had grip material.  The grooves are exactly what was used on the tennis rackets of the same period.  Rackets that pre-date wrapping materials are rare.
