Vintage Wood 1920 Sport Mart SUPERIOR Tennis Racket Antique old early wood wooden racquet supplied to the SPORT MART in Washington, DC. The shop was located at 1410 New york Avenue NW. Last two photos show the store in the 1920s with tennis rackets in the windows.NOTE: Part of a group of 12 rackets fresh to the market. I have listed two rackets a day between June 16 and June 21. Will combine items for much reduced postage for multiple purchases.MODEL: 1920 Sport Mart SUPERIOR – although not marked, this looks very much like a Wilson racket: the weight stamp, the decal font and the banding are all Wilson hallmarks HEAD: Larger than usual classic period oval; stock is square at the shoulders and then gently tapered and chamfered as it goes around the head; expected wear to the top of the head WARPING: noneFRAME: excellent solid condition; original finish on the shaft and most of the way around the head. THROAT WEDGE: laminated in place; concave in the style of the period STRINGS: looks like original lamb gut in mustard color with one break at the top as shown; double mains in the centerBANDING: as shown: the original matching brown bands are there; one is about 25% intact.DECALS: As shown; very good / excellent. GRIP: large 5 1/8 inchesSTAMPS: 14 ½ OZWEIGHT: weighs 14 1/2 ounces actual weight… END CAP: leather strip fully intact with minor wear as shown in the photo. End cap as shown.Postage will be based on 3.5 pounds of packed weight. International buyer: please wait for the invoice.
